CA’s Fast-Food Fight Is On

Not so fast Jack!  Yes, a Whopper of a fight we’ve been talking about is one step closer to taking place!  As reported by the Sacramento Bee, on Monday a restaurant business coalition announced that it has gathered enough signatures to challenge the FAST Recovery Act – the new state law that would create a labor council responsible for setting work pay and working conditions within the fast-food industry.  “Save Local Restaurants” claimed that it filed more than 1 million signatures to halt the new law from taking effect until voters get their say at the ballot box in November 2024.  It’s now up to the counties to provide a count to the secretary of state to see if the coalition was successful in obtaining the roughly 623,000 signatures required.  If so, then counties will have an additional 30 days to verify the signatures through random sampling.

If the coalition is successful and the question as to whether the law should take effect is placed before voters, it could be one “super-sized” battle between organized labor and the fast-food industry with spending from both sides hitting the hundreds of millions of dollars.
