As Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson continues to make her way through the nomination process to be the first U.S. Supreme Court Justice to have served as a public defender, Governor Newsom made news this week with two historic appointments to our courts. Andi Mudryk, a disability rights advocate and attorney, was named to the Sacramento County Superior Court. Mudryk is the first openly transgender judge and first appointed by a governor. Newsom also swore in Justice Patricia Guerrero to the California Supreme Court, making her the first Latina to serve on the state’s highest court.
